Falmouth, ME (March 21, 2025) – A serious crash on the Maine Turnpike left one person critically injured and led to the arrest of another driver who fled the scene.
According to Maine State Police, the accident occurred near mile marker 55 in the southbound lanes at approximately 2:30 a.m. When emergency crews arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles in the median.
One of the drivers, identified as 61-year-old Patrick Blair of Lewiston, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center. Authorities later reported that Blair was in critical but stable condition.
The second driver, 30-year-old Joshua Uwimana, also of Lewiston, fled the crash site on foot. State police, assisted by K9 units, located Uwimana about a mile south of the scene along the shoulder of the turnpike. Officers determined that he was intoxicated and took him into custody.
The southbound lanes of the Maine Turnpike were closed for several hours following the crash, with traffic being diverted at Exit 63 while authorities conducted their investigation.
The incident remains under investigation by Maine State Police.
