Farmingville, NY (February 6, 2023) – Authorities say that a man was fatally struck by two different vehicles on Sunday evening, February 5th. The fatal auto-pedestrian collision was reported on North Ocean Avenue in the Farmingville neighborhood of Long Island.
Reports show that at about 7:40 p.m., 58-year-old Roland Degroff was crossing North Ocean Avenue in the vicinity of Granny Rd. At that time, a 2022 Mercedes-Benz entered the area and struck the Degroff. The pedestrian was then hit by a 2021 Hyundai Sonata. Emergency responders were called to the scene a short time later.
Crews transported Degroff to a local hospital, but despite life-saving measures, he was unable to be saved. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Both the Mercedes and the Hyundai were impounded for safety checks following the crash. There is currently no word on any pending charges against the drivers involved.
Authorities are investigating the events that led to the collision.
