Fenton, NY (May 6, 2023) – Information from police in Broome County, Fenton, reports a serious car accident that occurred on Friday morning, May 5. At around 11:39 a.m., emergency crews went to the scene shortly after the incident occurred in order to help those involved.
Sources report the wreck happened when a vehicle crashed into the Chenango River off of Interstate 88 near the on-ramp for Port Crane, exit 3. The vehicle, identified as a 1991 Honda sedan, was headed west before the crash.
A male driver and female passenger made it onto the roof of the vehicle before the car sank into the river. They were then rescued by the Broome County Sheriff’s office before being transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment of injuries they sustained in the wreck.
Police in Fenton continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident. Traffic was blocked in the right-hand lane of the interstate for an extended period of time on Friday.
