Lakeland, FL (June 3, 2020) – A fatal multi-car accident took place on a highway in Lakeland Monday afternoon that took the lives of two individuals and injured two others.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s office, the crash occurred on US Highway 98 near Socrum Loop Road around 12:45 p.m. on June 1 between four vehicles that collided for reasons still under investigation.
Esther Boisvert, 53, of Davenport was stopped in the roadway in her 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan behind another vehicle who was waiting to turn left. A 2019 silver Ford F350 pickup being driven by 24-year-old Patrick Banner of Winter Haven collided with the right side of the rear of her caravan, pushing the van into the southbound lane where it was then hit by a burgundy 2003 Honda CRV. The Honda was headed south being driven by 73-year-old Carol Bone accompanied by her husband, 77-year-old Gary Bone. Both resided in Lakeland.
Carol and Gary Bone suffered fatal injuries in the collision and were pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders. Boisvert was taken to LRHMC with non-life-threatening injuries, and Banner received no injuries in the collision.
A fourth vehicle being driven by 35-year-old Johana Moreno of Lakeland was forced to swerve left to avoid clipping the Bones’ CRV following its collision with the Caravan. The impact caused Moreno’s 2019 black Chevrolet Trax to roll over onto its roof before coming to a full stop. Moreno suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to LRHMC.
The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by authorities.
US Highway 98 was closed for approximately four hours in both directions following the collision.
No further information is available at this time.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victims during this difficult time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
