Fort Myers, FL (March 12, 2025) – A devastating two-vehicle crash on Gladiolus Drive at Maida Lane claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and left two others seriously injured Wednesday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred when an 18-year-old male driver was traveling east on Gladiolus Drive and failed to stop for a red traffic signal at Maida Lane. At the same time, a 30-year-old man was in the left turn lane waiting for a green arrow. As the light changed, the driver of the second vehicle proceeded with the turn and was struck on the side by the oncoming sedan.
The force of the impact caused the second vehicle to veer off the roadway and collide with a wastewater lift station.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the 17-year-old girl, a passenger in the sedan, deceased. Both the 18-year-old driver of the sedan and the 30-year-old driver of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that neither teenager was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The incident led to the closure of all eastbound lanes of Gladiolus Drive, with traffic redirected to Summerlin Road for several hours.
The crash remains under investigation by FHP.

Intersection Accidents in Florida
Collisions at intersections, particularly those involving red-light violations, often result in severe injuries and fatalities. The crash on Gladiolus Drive highlights the dangers of running a red light and the critical importance of obeying traffic signals.
Failing to yield at an intersection can lead to dangerous T-bone crashes, which are known to cause life-threatening injuries, especially for passengers. In addition, seatbelt usage remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injuries or fatalities in a crash. Statistics show that unrestrained occupants are at a significantly higher risk of severe harm during a collision.
For those involved in serious accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Medical bills, rehabilitation, and emotional trauma can take a toll on victims and their families. Seeking guidance and support after a crash can help those affected understand their options for recovery.
