Franklin County, IL (December 12, 2024) – Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the night of December 10 at the intersection of State Highway 37 and Ewing Rd in Franklin County, Illinois. At approximately 10:30 PM, a two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of one woman and left another vehicle engulfed in flames.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved a semi-truck and trailer combination that was traveling southbound on State Highway 37 and was preparing to turn east onto Ewing Rd. Before the semi-truck could complete its turn, it was struck from behind by a southbound passenger vehicle. The impact caused the passenger vehicle to catch fire.
Two witnesses who observed the crash acted quickly to remove the driver of the passenger vehicle. Despite their efforts, the driver, identified as 54-year-old Angela L. Byrley of Buckner, Illinois, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the semi-truck were unharmed in the collision.
