Franklin County, MO (March 19, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash on Interstate 44 near mile marker 253 left one person with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:52 p.m. when an 18-year-old woman from Fenton, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Trax westbound in lane three, failed to adjust her speed for slowing traffic. Authorities report that she was inattentive as she approached a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 51-year-old man from St. Louis, which was the last vehicle in a slow-moving traffic line.
The front of the Chevrolet collided with the rear of the Jeep, causing the Chevrolet to overturn onto its roof, coming to a stop in the middle of the roadway. The Jeep was pushed off the right side of the highway due to the impact.
Emergency responders transported the Jeep's driver to Mercy St. Louis Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained injuries and was transported for medical care. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene by John's Towing.
Missouri State Highway Patrol officers, including TPR J.W. Servais and TPR H.H. Hoemann, continue to investigate the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we hope for their full recovery.
Rear-End Collisions in Missouri
Rear-end accidents are among the most common types of collisions on Missouri highways, especially in high-traffic areas like Interstate 44. These crashes often occur due to driver inattention, following too closely, or failing to adjust speed to road conditions.
Even at moderate speeds, rear-end impacts can lead to severe injuries, particularly when larger or heavier vehicles are involved. In cases where high speeds contribute to the accident, the force of impact can cause secondary collisions, rollovers, or lane departures, increasing the risk of serious harm.
Missouri law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance and remain alert to changing traffic conditions. Unfortunately, even careful motorists can become victims of another driver's inattention. Those injured in such accidents often face long-term recovery, medical expenses, and financial burdens due to lost wages.
