Gainesville, FL (March 12, 2025) – A devastating rollover crash on Interstate 75 near the Southwest Williston Road exit claimed the life of a 33-year-old driver and left five others injured Monday evening.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75. The SUV involved overturned for reasons still under investigation, leading to a multi-hour closure of the highway as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Tragically, the driver succumbed to injuries at the scene. Among the passengers, four were children, including a 6-year-old who remains in critical condition. A 30-year-old woman also sustained critical injuries, while a 13-year-old girl suffered serious injuries. Two other children, ages 5 and 8, escaped with minor injuries.
Investigators noted that neither of the adults was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities are working to determine whether the children were properly restrained.
Following the crash, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Gainesville Police Department assisted in diverting traffic onto Archer Road while crews cleared debris. The road remained closed for several hours before reopening late Monday night.
The investigation remains active as authorities seek to understand what caused the fatal rollover.
