Gainesville, VA – Chyi Mao Loses Life in Pedestrian Crash on Somerset Crossing Dr near Forkland Way

Gainesville, VA (July 16, 2023) – The Prince William County Police Department confirmed that 72-year-old Chyi Mao of Gainesville lost his life as a result of an automobile collision that occurred on Friday morning, July 14.

At around 715 a.m., Mao was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Somerset Crossing Drive in Forkland Way.

Further investigations show that Mao was attempting to cross at the intersection while in a crosswalk when he was struck by a 2011 Honda Odyssey, which was traveling east on Somerset Crossing Way.

The pedestrian was fatally injured and pronounced deceased on-site.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 77-year-old woman from Gainesville, remained at the scene.

The incident is being investigated.
