Gallup, NM – 15 Hurt Including Two Officers When Car Strikes Paradegoers at S 7th St & W Coal Ave

Gallup, NM (August 5, 2022) – A total of fifteen people were injured after a motor vehicle slammed into a crowd of paradegoers on Thursday, August 4th. The incident occurred at the intersection of South 7th Street and West Coal Avenue in the town of Gallup.

Aut6horitieis say that a man identified as Jeff Irving was intoxicated and driving a vehicle when he slammed into a crowd of people who were gathered together for the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Parade.

Irving ultimately blew a 0.24 on two breathalyzer tests and was detained for driving while intoxicated. Emergency crews were at the scene a short time after the crash.

Two of the victims were identified as police officers and an additional 13 people were hospitalized. One was reported to be in critical condition at this time. Few other details are available.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
