Gandy, FL (June 26, 2020) – A fatal pedestrian accident took place on a bridge in Gandy yesterday that took one life.
The crash happened on Howard Frankland Bridge on June 25, at around 1 p.m. when a 16-year-old was pulled over on the shoulder of the bridge with car trouble. The teen had a 19-year-old passenger with him who was outside of the vehicle alongside the driver looking underneath the hood of the vehicle.
While this was taking place, a 33-year-old from Temple Terrace averted from his lane in his pickup truck and struck the 19-year-old standing on the shoulder.
The teenage passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by medical professionals. No information has been disclosed on whether or not the 16-year-old driver sustained any injuries.
It was confirmed by police that the Temple Terrace driver attempted to flee the scene of the collision but was stopped by several drivers near Kennedy Boulevard. The fleeing driver was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving without a license.
No further details have been released regarding the circumstances of the collision. A police investigation will continue.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
