Calhoun, GA (December 9, 2020) – A motorcycle crash left three people injured, including a City of Calhoun police officer, on Saturday, December 5. The reason the crash occurred is being investigated by local police at this time.
The accident took place around 12:20 p.m. when a City of Calhoun police officer, identified as 73-year-old Officer Banks, was riding on his Harley Davidson patrol bike escorting a motorcycle benefit ride. A man by the name of Darrel Sims, aged 52, was participating in the benefit ride.
Officer Banks was headed south in the northbound lanes of GA 136 Connector near GA 156. He was turning left into a gas station parking lot when, for unknown reasons, he collided with Sims.
Both motorcyclists, as well as a female passenger who was on the back of Sims’ bike at the time of the crash, were transported to Advent Health Gordon by emergency medical professionals for treatment of injuries they sustained in the accident.
The severity and scope of their injuries have not been reported at this time. An accident investigation is currently active. No further information is available at the current time concerning the circumstances of the collision.
