Cherokee County, GA (August 26, 2020) – A fatal car accident took place on a roadway in Cherokee County this past Saturday night that took the life of one Cartersville teenager.
The crash occurred on Interstate 75 near Priest Road in the late-night hours of Saturday, August 22 for reasons still under local law enforcement investigation.
According to preliminary reports, the wreck took place when a pick-up truck being driven by Benjamin Land, 19, of Ackworth, collided with a guardrail and then a tree. The force of the impact caused Land’s 19-year-old female passenger, Savanna Joyce Martin, to be ejected from the vehicle.
Martin was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by emergency medical personnel. Mr. Land was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for the treatment of minor injuries.
One other passenger present in the vehicle at the time of the crash who remains unidentified at this time was not injured.
According to a statement released by the Cherokee Sheriff’s office, preliminary investigations show that the driver was impaired at the time of the wreck.
No charges have currently been filed as the investigation into the circumstances of the wreck continues.
