Cordele, GA – Gerilyn Jones Dies in Pecan Orchard Accident on Elbert Rd

Cordele, GA (December 07, 2020) – A fatal motor vehicle accident occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 2nd. 

Initial reports reveal that the accident took place in a pecan grove at the intersection of Elbert Road and Macedonia Church Road in the city of Cordele.

An official from the Georgia State Patrol stated that, for reasons that have yet to be determined, the car left the paved portion of the street, crashed into a tree, ejected the passenger from the vehicle, and came to rest in a pecan orchard just off the roadway.  

The passenger thrown from the car was 53-year-old Gerilyn Jones, a resident of Cordele. She was found lying in front of the vehicle, dead.

The driver, 44-year-old Melissa Hamilton, also a resident of Cordele, was trapped inside the car. Hydraulic rescue tools were required to free her from the pushed-in dashboard.   

Troopers from the Georgia State Patrol are investigating this accident.
