Giles County, VA (August 26, 2020) – A fatal car crash occurred on a roadway in Giles County this past Monday evening that took the life of one individual.
The accident occurred on Route 635 at approximately 6:51 p.m. on Monday, August 24 for reasons still under investigation by local law enforcement officials.
According to the police report, a 2003 Ford Econoline Van being driven by Russel M. Schucker, 68, of Chesapeake, was headed in an unspecified direction on Route 635 when for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and collided with an embankment and then overturned. The van came to a final stop on the side of the roadway.
Schucker was transported to a nearby medical center with life-threatening injuries where he later succumbed to his wounds and passed away.
One passenger present in the vehicle at the time of the crash, Suzanne M. Schucker, 67, also a resident of Chesapeake, was taken to the same area hospital for the treatment of injuries deemed serious in nature.
No further information has been provided concerning the circumstances of the wreck at this time.
An investigation into the details of the collision will be carried out by local police.
