Glenn County, CA (May 11, 2025) – A crash occurred Saturday night on the southbound side of I-5 just north of Exit 33 in Glenn County, resulting in minor injuries and extensive disruption as crews responded to a rollover involving at least one vehicle. The crash was reported at approximately 9:18 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. One of the involved vehicles—a silver sedan—was found upside down in the center divider. Authorities confirmed that the crash involved a silver sedan and a green truck with a trailer. The sedan reportedly overcorrected while attempting to maneuver around a slow-moving trailer, leading to the rollover.
A key concern during the response was a missing dog, reportedly a black poodle named Champ (also referred to in reports as Tim), which escaped during the crash. The vehicle occupant was noted to be actively searching for the animal while interacting with emergency responders. No further information about the pet’s status has been released.
The crash caused temporary lane blockages and required rotation towing assistance. One party was evaluated for minor injuries, and no additional transports have been confirmed. CHP updated the incident status to “traffic collision with minor injuries” at 10:46 p.m. after completing the on-site investigation.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident and with the owner searching for their missing dog.
Rollover Accidents on California Freeways
Rollover crashes like the one seen on I-5 in Glenn County are particularly hazardous and often result in serious outcomes due to the violent nature of the vehicle motion. Even when classified as “minor injury” incidents, these crashes typically involve vehicle damage, occupant trauma, and emotional distress.
I-5 is a major north-south artery through California and sees a high volume of passenger and commercial vehicles daily. Accidents in rural stretches like those in Glenn County can be worsened by limited visibility, high speeds, and fewer immediate access points for emergency services.
This crash highlights the dangers of overcorrecting and the importance of staying attentive when sharing the road with slower vehicles, especially those hauling trailers. Vehicle stability can be compromised in seconds when evasive maneuvers are taken at highway speeds.
Beyond injuries and property damage, incidents like this also take an emotional toll, particularly when pets or loved ones are involved. Community members who come across a black poodle near the area of CR-30 are encouraged to report sightings to local authorities.
