Gloucester County, VA (October 23, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of a 62-year-old man. The Virginia State Police (VSP) are currently investigating the incident, which took place around 8:52 AM on Burkes Pond Road (Route 602), just north of John Clayton Memorial Highway (Route 14).
Preliminary investigations indicate that Richard Gregory Gibson, Jr. was traveling north on Burkes Pond Road on a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he ran off the roadway and into a ditch. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Gibson to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not yet determined whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors in this tragic crash.
