Grants, NM (June 30, 2020) – A four-year-old child was killed and six others were injured in a serious crash that took place early on Sunday morning, June 28th. The fatal crash occurred just south of Grants on State Route 117, in the vicinity of mile marker 36.
According to the New Mexico State Police, an 18-year-old male was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer with six passengers when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed around 4:28 a.m. A 4-year-old child was ejected from the SUV due to the impact of the accident.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene where the child was pronounced deceased. Two 5-year-olds, an 8-year-old, an 11-year-old, an 18-year-old female, and a 27-year-old male were all hospitalized with unspecified injuries. All victims were transported to Cibola General Hospital in Grants except for the 18-year-old female who was airlifted to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.
The driver may be facing charges as the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
