Grass Lake Twp, MI (April 16, 2025) – A 16-year-old Jackson teen was injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at a rural intersection in Grass Lake Township, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. on April 15, 2025, at the intersection of Sarossy Road and Bohne Road. According to Lt. Jeremy Barnett, the teen was driving northbound on Sarossy Road when he failed to yield at the intersection and collided with an eastbound vehicle on Bohne Road, driven by an 18-year-old man from Grass Lake.
Sarossy Road is controlled by stop signs, while Bohne Road has the right of way with no stop signs posted. The impact occurred within the intersection, causing injury to the teen driver.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and transported the 16-year-old to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver was not injured in the crash.
Following an investigation, the 16-year-old was found to be at fault for failing to yield and was cited accordingly, Barnett said.
We extend our best wishes for a smooth and complete recovery to the injured teen.
Rural Intersection Safety and Teen Driver Awareness
Crashes at uncontrolled rural intersections like the one at Sarossy and Bohne Roads are unfortunately common in Michigan, particularly when visibility is limited or traffic control devices are misunderstood. In this incident, the at-fault driver failed to stop or yield at a clearly marked intersection, leading to a significant collision.
These types of crashes often involve younger or inexperienced drivers, who may be less familiar with traffic right-of-way rules or more prone to distraction and misjudgment. The transition from low-traffic country roads to cross-traffic intersections without stop signs can present unexpected hazards for new drivers.
While this crash did not result in life-threatening injuries, the impact could have been much more severe. The outcome reinforces the importance of early driver education and the need for young motorists to approach intersections with heightened caution—especially in rural areas, where road signs and line-of-sight can vary widely.
For families, this kind of accident also serves as a reminder to talk with teen drivers about safe habits, such as full stops, defensive driving, and scanning for oncoming vehicles even when roadways appear clear.
