Greene County, MO (April 30, 2025) – A rear-end collision caused by hydroplaning left one man injured Tuesday evening, April 29, on Highway N, approximately 0.75 miles north of Republic. The crash occurred at around 6:55 p.m. and was investigated by Trooper R. Watkins of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D.
According to the crash report, a 24-year-old man from Republic, MO, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus northbound on Highway N when his vehicle began to hydroplane. As a result, the Focus lost traction and collided with the rear of a 2019 Ford Ranger being driven by a 70-year-old man from Bois D’Arc, MO, who was also traveling northbound.
The Ford Ranger sustained minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. The Ford Focus, which suffered moderate damage, was removed by private tow.
The 70-year-old driver of the Ranger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered minor injuries. He was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital Aurora for evaluation and treatment. The driver of the Focus was not reported injured.

Hydroplaning and Wet Weather Driving in Missouri
Hydroplaning is one of the most dangerous weather-related hazards drivers face, especially on rural and less-maintained roads like Highway N in Greene County. It occurs when a vehicle’s tires lose contact with the road surface due to a layer of water, resulting in a loss of control, steering, and braking capability.
In this case, the crash was caused when a vehicle hydroplaned and struck another from behind. Fortunately, the injuries were minor, but such incidents can escalate quickly, particularly when they occur at higher speeds or involve multiple vehicles.
Hydroplaning crashes tend to happen most frequently during the first 10 minutes of light rain or when water pools in low spots on the roadway. Missouri drivers are advised to reduce speed, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking during wet conditions.
Rear-end collisions due to weather-related loss of control are unfortunately common, and while they may appear minor, they often result in injuries, vehicle damage, and complex insurance or liability issues.
