Greenport, NY – Anna Podgorbunski Fatally Struck by Train

Greenport. NY (September 12, 2020) – One woman was killed when she was struck by a train on Friday. September 11th.

Initial police reports indicate that at about 8:00 p.m., the emergency call center for Columbia County dispatched the Greenport Rescue Squad, the Hudson Fire Department, and the Hudson Police Department to the train tracks located just north of the Hudson Amtrak Train Station after receiving reports of a person being struck by a train.

On their arrival, it was discovered that the fatal accident had actually taken place in Greenport. Once this was discovered, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation.

The investigation determined that an Amtrak Passenger Train heading southbound for New York City had struck and killed 54-year-old Anna Podgorbunski, a resident of New York City, as she walked northbound along the railroad tracks. 

This accident remains under investigation.
