Guernsey County, OH (March 12, 2025) – A serious head-on collision early Wednesday morning sent three people to the hospital, including one who was airlifted from the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash on State Route 513, where two vehicles collided head-on. Officials reported that Travis Larrick was driving southbound when he crossed the centerline. Codie Aford, who was traveling northbound, attempted to swerve to avoid the crash but was unable to prevent the collision.
Emergency responders found significant crash damage at the scene. Aford was trapped in the vehicle and required mechanical extraction before being transported to a landing zone and airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Larrick and his passenger, Amanda Hutzel, were also injured in the crash. One of the occupants in Larrick’s vehicle was trapped due to crash damage and the position of Aford’s vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that all three victims sustained serious injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Head-on Collisions in Ohio
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents, often leading to severe injuries due to the force of impact. Many of these accidents occur when a driver crosses the center line, as seen in this crash on SR-513. While drivers may attempt to avoid collisions, the sudden nature of these incidents makes it difficult to react in time.
Ohio law emphasizes the importance of staying in the correct lane and avoiding distracted or impaired driving. Unfortunately, when a driver drifts into oncoming traffic, the consequences can be severe for everyone involved.
Victims of head-on collisions often face long recovery periods, mounting medical expenses, and emotional trauma. Seeking legal guidance can help injured individuals understand their options for compensation and support during their recovery.
