Gumboro, MD (May 14, 2023) – The Maryland State Police confirmed that 39-year-old Eliassaint Aussideu died as a result of a truck crash that took place in Wicomico County on Saturday morning.
According to officials, just before 3:45 a.m. on May 13, authorities were called to the scene of a crash on Gumboro Road.
Reports from authorities show that three vehicles were stopped on the southbound side of Route 353. The vehicles were identified as a GMC Acadia, a Kia Forte, and the Chevrolet Express Van. The Kia was disabled and attempting to jumpstart the GMC vehicle.
A tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on the roadway when it crashed into the rear of the Kia in the passenger side of the GMC.
One person in the Acadia, identified as 34-year-old Joseus Gerlie, was severely hurt in the crash. The victim was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
A total of fifteen people were provided medical care at the scene. All of the fifteen victims were then transported by ambulance to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital for further medical care.
One person involved in the accident, identified as Aussideu, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
