Hawthorne, NY (November 22, 2021) – Three people sustained injuries when a box truck crashed through a Christmas tree farm and ended up in the Saw Mill River in Hawthorne at about 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 22nd.

Police said that a truck driver was heading northbound on Saw Mill River Road when a vehicle in front of him came to a sudden stop, causing the driver to swerve to avoid hitting it.

As he turned, the driver struck a southbound Subaru head-on.

The box truck then left the roadway, crashed through a fence, plowed through several trees at Rosedale Nurseries, and came to an uncontrolled stop in the river.

The driver of the Subaru sustained back and neck injuries, as did the driver and passenger of the truck. All three were taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

As announced by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, 83% of all commercial truck accidents in the state in 2014 were caused by human error. According to New York tractor-trailer accident attorneys, the driver mistakes that occurred most often, and therefore caused the largest number of accidents, were following too closely, improper lane changes, driver distraction, improper passing, and failing to yield the right-of-way.

Being injured in a New York trucking accident can be an extremely disruptive, frightening, confusing, and overwhelming time in a person’s life. After being hurt in a truck crash that was not your fault, the last things you need to be concerned with are the financial obligations and other stressors that only make physical recovery more challenging.
