Houston, TX (January 13, 2025) – A man drove his truck into the Belfort Apartments in southeast Houston on Sunday afternoon, injuring one person inside. Houston Police Department (HPD) officers are actively investigating the incident.
The crash occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of his truck, veered off the opposite side of the road, and crashed through a metal fence before slamming into the apartment building. Six people were inside the unit at the time. An adult woman, who was sleeping in the living room, was struck and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, she is expected to recover from her injuries.
Burgandy Corothers, the victim’s aunt, described the terrifying situation, adding that the family had recently moved into the Belfort Apartments after losing their previous home in a fire.
“We moved here from Willow Tree Apartments. The apartment we were in burnt down, and we were homeless for a couple of weeks until we were able to get into these Belfort apartments,” Corothers explained. “We just moved in, and today, the truck ran into the living room.”
The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. Preliminary findings suggest he lost control of the vehicle, but no signs of intoxication were observed.
Vehicle Crashes Into Buildings in Houston
Accidents involving vehicles crashing into buildings are rare but can cause severe injuries and significant property damage. In busy urban areas like Houston, high traffic volumes and driver error can contribute to such incidents. The crash at the Belfort Apartments underscores the importance of cautious driving, especially near residential areas.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, urban accidents often result in serious injuries and extensive damage, requiring thorough investigations to determine causes and liabilities.
If you are involved in or affected by a vehicle crash into a building, prioritizing safety is critical. Immediately call emergency services to report the incident and seek medical attention for anyone injured. Do not enter the affected area until authorities have ensured it is structurally safe.
Document the scene by taking photographs of the damage, the vehicle involved, and any injuries sustained. Collect contact information from witnesses and the driver. Consulting with legal or insurance professionals can help address medical expenses, property damage, and other claims resulting from the crash.
