Huntington, NY (March 19, 2023) – One person has died as a result of a motor vehicle accident that took place in the town of Huntington early Saturday morning involving a tractor-trailer.
At approximately 12:15 a.m. on March 18, the Suffolk County police responded to the scene of an automobile accident on Jericho Turnpike.
Preliminary reports show that Carlos Orellana Mata was driving an Infiniti east on the Turnpike when he became involved in a collision with a Volvo tractor-trailer.
The incident prompted the police to shut down the roadway in the area between Larkfield Road and Verleye Avenue.
A passenger in the Infiniti, 23-year-old Leonel Lopez, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Orellana Mata was treated for injuries at the hospital. He was later charged with DWI.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident. He was later identified as 38-year-old Ibrahima Doukoure.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
