Huntington, NY (May 25, 2021) – Authorities say that one man was killed and another person was left injured after a serious multi-vehicle accident in the Huntington area of Long Island. The fatal accident was reported late around 5:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon, May 24th along Jericho Turnpike.
According to law enforcement, 50-year-old Mark Bernzweig, a local resident of Huntington, was driving westbound in a 2004 Honda Accord when he collided with a 2018 Lexus RX350 at Werner Road. The Accord continued west and collided with a 2013 Nissan Rogue and a 2012 Nissan Versa.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene where they transported Bernzweig to Huntington Hospital. He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
EMTs transported the driver of the Versa, identified as 23-year-old Alexis Selmar, also of Huntington, to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Neither of the other two drivers involved was injured in the crash.
Authorities are actively conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Mark Bernzweig at this time. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. We understand that there is absolutely nothing more devastating than the unexpected loss of a family member, especially if the accident that took their life could have been avoided in any way possible.

Car Accidents in New York
On average, at least 316 fatalities are reported annually after the numerous New York car accidents that only continue to occur all over the state. However, this figure only reflects those crashes in which the role of the victim has not been verified, meaning that the precise fatality rate is likely to be substantially higher. Around 5.6 per 100,000 New Yorkers are killed each and every year in various collisions, and many of these accidents are caused by the actions of seriously negligent drivers.
After losing a loved one in a careless, reckless, or otherwise negligent New York car accident by no fault of the victim, it may feel like no amount of compensation could make you feel complete again. While it is true that no financial restitution can ever fully make up for your losses, filing a wrongful death claim against the responsible party or parties can go a long way toward helping you find some semblance of peace again.
