Independence, MO (September 13, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, September 13, 2023, a fatal two-car crash was reported on eastbound Interstate 70 near Interstate 470.

The accident unfolded shortly before 8:20 a.m. A Ford Expedition, heading east, collided with the back of a semitrailer.

Joshua Stump, 38, of Lee’s Summit, the Ford’s driver, died at the scene.

Another passenger in the Ford sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Unharmed, the semitrailer’s driver stayed on-site, assisting police with their inquiries.

The investigation is still ongoing.
