Jefferson, NY (April 3, 2023) – At approximately 2:37 a.m. on Saturday afternoon, April 1st, a man reportedly lost his life in a drowning accident that occurred in the town of Jefferson. The fatal incident was reported at the Zone Boys Camp in the area of Scotch Valley Road.
Authorities with the New York State Police say that three people were on a small boat when for unknown reasons, the vessel overturned on the water. Emergency responders were called to the scene, where they arrived to assist the occupants of the boat and assess the nature of the incident.
Two of the occupants were ultimately rescued by first responders and immediately taken to Albany Medical Center via helicopter. They are listed in stable condition at this time.
A third occupant who, despite numerous attempts to locate, was not found until approximately 11:00 a.m. the following day, was pronounced deceased on site. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Juann E. Parco Saez of Ecuador, succumbed to injuries caused by accidental drowning, according to authorities.
The events that caused the boat to overturn are under investigation.
