Jensen Beach, FL (October 22, 2024) – A woman was hospitalized following a startling incident at the Tako Tiki bar on Saturday night when a golf cart crashed through the establishment's front door, striking a table and injuring a patron. The owner of Tako Tiki, Troy Pulley, was out of state when he received a panicked call from his manager about the accident.
According to Pulley, the manager reported, “A golf cart just drove through the front door and hit a table.” The collision resulted in one woman suffering a serious pelvic injury, necessitating her transport to a local hospital for medical care. Pulley described the injured woman as a "great lady, wonderful customer… a local," emphasizing the community impact of the incident.
Captain Ruben Romero with the Martin County Sheriff's Office indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the driver may not have been adequately trained to operate the golf cart. The vehicle involved in the accident reportedly belonged to the Ocean Breeze Resort, located about half a mile from the bar. Romero noted, “The driver was probably one of the employees, and the female that attempted to drive the vehicle when the accident happened may have not been a person who was supposed to be operating it.”
Inquiries made by WPTV's Jon Shainman at the resort regarding the incident yielded no immediate answers, as no managers were available to comment. However, investigators expressed relief that the situation did not result in more severe injuries.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the incident and has indicated that the driver of the golf cart is likely to face traffic citations as a result of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman and her family during this challenging time.
