Joplin, MO (July 8, 2023) – A serious crash near 249 and East Newman Road in Joplin alerted E-911 centers on Friday, July 7, 2023, just before noon.
Because of the proximity to the boundary line, Joplin Fire, Joplin Police, METS, Duenweg Fire, and Jasper County Deputies responded quickly.
The authorities immediately notified the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Tpr J. Drum of Troop D stated that a Chevy Equinox traveling south on 249 rear-ended a Jeep, crossed the median, and veered off the east side 249.
It careened down an embankment, soaring over the on-ramp, and collided with the passenger side of a dump truck.
METS extricated the SUV’s sole occupant, Axel Hartman, 52, of Carthage, MO, who was unresponsive and rushed him to the hospital in critical condition.
The dump truck driver, William Massey, 61, of Oswego, Kan., escaped unharmed.
Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol assessed the severity of the crash and called in their Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU).
MoDOT arrived at 2 p.m. to assess and replace the intersection’s damaged signs.
