Kansas City, MO (November 25, 2024) – A tragic accident early Sunday morning claimed the life of an ATV rider in Kansas City after a collision involving an ambulance.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. in the area of West 32nd St and Broadway Blvd. According to Sgt. Philip DiMartino of the Kansas City Police Department, the ATV, which was operating without headlights, was seen performing tricks on the road.
As the ambulance traveled south on Broadway, the ATV driver reportedly accelerated, lost control, and collided with the emergency vehicle. The impact ejected the ATV rider, who was subsequently struck by the ambulance. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
No injuries were reported among the ambulance crew or the patient being transported. A second ambulance was dispatched to ensure the patient continued to receive care en route to the hospital.
This incident marks the 86th traffic fatality in Kansas City this year, a slight decrease compared to the 90 fatalities recorded at this time in 2023. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
