Kittery, ME (December 13, 2024) – A tragic crash early Thursday morning on the Piscataqua River Bridge, which carries Interstate 95 from New Hampshire to Maine, claimed the life of 41-year-old Sergeant Jacob Wolterbeek of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The crash occurred at approximately 1:14 a.m., according to Maine State Police.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a box truck had stopped in traffic on the Maine side of the bridge when Sergeant Wolterbeek, an 18-year veteran of the Biddeford Police Department, crashed his Toyota Camry into the rear of the truck. Wolterbeek, who leaves behind his wife and three children, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the box truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by local authorities, and details regarding the specific cause of the accident have yet to be fully determined.
