Lakeland, FL. – Amtrak Train Collides with Semi-Truck, Derails near Lakeland, Injuring Seven Passengers

Lakeland, FL. (July 15, 2023) – On Friday night, July 14, 2023, an Amtrak train derailed near Lakeland, Florida, injuring seven people.

All of the passengers and crew had to be evacuated.

A passenger train and a semi-truck carrying automobiles were involved in the collision.

The reason the tractor-trailer stopped on the tracks remains under investigation.

According to Lakeland Fire Department Battalion Chief Jason Bugsby, 163 passengers and ten crew members were on board the train from Miami via Tampa en route to New York.

Passengers are being moved to a nearby shelter in a coordinated effort led by the railroad.

Investigations are still ongoing.
