Las Cruces, NM – Fatal Accident Involving Stolen Car at Young Park

Las Cruces, NM (November 21, 2023) – A tragic incident on Saturday, November 18, claimed the life of 20-year-old Leilani Solis. This happened following a crash involving a stolen Hyundai Tucson near Young Park. The vehicle was reported stolen earlier that day. In the late evening, the owner saw the car at Young Park. When confronted, the teen suspects fled in the vehicle.

The stolen car returned to the park, pursuing the owner on foot. The driver lost control, hit a curb, and the vehicle overturned. Solis was ejected and fatally crushed under the car. The driver and two passengers escaped, but one was later apprehended.

Authorities have charged the 16-year-old driver with homicide by vehicle. Our thoughts are with Leilani Solis’s family during this difficult time.
