Lebanon County, PA (October 25, 2024) – A tragic four-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 81 in East Hanover Township at approximately 11:24 AM on Thursday. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident took place in the southbound lanes, just north of Exit 80, which leads to Route 743/Grantville/Hershey.
Initial reports indicate that a tractor-trailer, a sedan, and a van were all stopped in traffic due to congestion when a fourth tractor-trailer traveling down the interstate collided with the sedan. The impact caused the sedan to strike a traffic sign while the traveling tractor-trailer continued forward, hitting the van and pushing it into the other tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic.
Unfortunately, the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. Meanwhile, the driver of the traveling tractor-trailer, along with the driver and a passenger of the sedan, were transported to Hershey Medical Center for medical evaluation and treatment. The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.
The crash resulted in the closure of all southbound lanes of Interstate 81 for nearly seven hours as emergency responders worked to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
