Leeds, UT (August 4, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 15 near Leeds left one person injured Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred near milepost 23 and involved a pickup truck pulling a trailer, a semi-truck, and an RV, according to Trooper Davies Sanchez with the Utah Highway Patrol.
The incident unfolded when the driver of a pickup truck attempted to avoid a potential collision with a semi-truck. In doing so, the pickup lost control, fishtailed, and collided with a recreational vehicle. The RV driver then tried to stabilize the car but instead struck the front end of the pickup truck a second time.
As a result of the crash, the front-seat passenger of the pickup suffered a broken arm and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported among the occupants of the involved vehicles.
Traffic was temporarily blocked in the southbound lanes of I-15 as emergency responders and cleanup crews worked the scene. While all travel lanes were later reopened, the off-ramp at the crash site remained closed into the evening for continued clearing operations.
Our thoughts are with the injured passenger, and we hope for a smooth and full recovery.
Trailer-Related Collisions and RV Safety on Utah Interstates
Crashes involving trailers, RVs, and semis are particularly dangerous due to the size, weight, and instability of the vehicles involved. Sunday’s collision near Leeds is a prime example of how quickly a maneuver to avoid one hazard—like a semi-truck—can spiral into a multi-vehicle crash when space, speed, and road conditions align unpredictably.
The fishtailing of the pickup truck, especially while towing a trailer, highlights the challenges many drivers face in high-speed avoidance scenarios. Trailers reduce maneuverability and can make sudden corrections risky, particularly on busy interstates like I-15.
RVs, while designed for travel, are also difficult to manage in emergencies. A loss of control in a large recreational vehicle can result in unpredictable motion and serious damage to nearby vehicles. In this incident, the combination of two large, towed or high-center vehicles significantly increased the collision risk.
For passengers injured in such incidents, the recovery process can be long and complex. In addition to physical healing, many face financial stress and transportation hurdles. Accessing accurate crash documentation and appropriate medical care is critical.
Utah Highway Patrol continues to emphasize safe driving distances, controlled speeds, and caution when operating with or around large vehicles. Defensive driving—especially when towing—is essential for protecting both occupants and other motorists.
