Leonardtown, MD (May 11, 2023) – On May 9, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to provide assistance at the scene of an automobile accident that took place in the Leonardtown area.
At approximately 7:40 a.m., a head-on collision between vehicles took place on Point Lookout Road at the intersection of Moakley Street. Further investigations show that a 2022 Nissan Altima was traveling south through the area when the vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a 2007 Jeep Patriot.
As the two vehicles collided, they rotated and struck a 2020 Ford F450.
The incident blocked several lanes of the road as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
One person involved in the accident, identified as 48-year-old Matthew Scott DeMent, suffered injuries in the crash. He was airlifted from the scene by helicopter and flown to an area hospital for emergency care. A second person involved in the accident, identified as 28-year-old Wendy Ricardo Laurent, also suffered injuries in the crash. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
