Lilburn, GA – Two Killed in Mobile Home Fire on Bent Willow Dr

Published:
April 14, 2025

Lilburn, GA (April 14, 2025) – Two individuals were killed early Saturday morning in a devastating fire that engulfed a recreation trailer behind a home on Bent Willow Dr, according to the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Firefighters responded shortly after 6:00 a.m. when a neighbor reported an RV on fire in the wooded area behind the 4100 block of Bent Willow Dr. The caller stated they could see flames across the lake and heard an explosion coming from the area. Multiple callers also indicated that the trailer may have been occupied.

A resident of the main home on the property confirmed he was awakened by the fire and quickly called 911. Upon arrival, firefighters found the trailer fully involved in flames. Crews moved swiftly to extinguish the blaze and conducted two searches of the structure.

Tragically, both searches led to the discovery of two deceased individuals inside the heavily damaged trailer. Their identities have not yet been released, and officials have not confirmed whether they were residents of the property.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those lost in this heartbreaking incident.

Fire Safety and Mobile Home Risks in Georgia

Fires in mobile homes, RVs, and trailers pose unique and often deadly risks. The incident in Lilburn underscores how quickly these structures can become fully engulfed, leaving little time for occupants to escape. Lightweight construction materials and limited access points make mobile homes particularly vulnerable to rapid fire spread.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, fire fatalities in mobile homes occur at a significantly higher rate than in traditional housing. Many of these fires are caused by heating malfunctions, electrical issues, or improper use of flammable materials. Explosions like the one heard in this case may be linked to onboard propane tanks or fuel systems.

In Georgia, fire departments continue to urge all residents—especially those in RVs or trailers—to install smoke alarms, maintain fire extinguishers, and develop an emergency escape plan. Early detection is key in increasing survival chances during a blaze.

For families affected by fire tragedies, the recovery process can be emotionally and financially overwhelming. Community support and access to specialized services can help in the aftermath.
