Lima, OH (March 17, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Metcalf St and Spring St on Sunday evening after one driver allegedly ran a red light.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. when 68-year-old Valerie Howell was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion eastbound on Spring St with a green light. At the same time, 33-year-old Christopher Chavarria was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra northbound on Metcalf St when he failed to stop at a red light, causing a collision with the Ford. The Hyundai struck the front passenger side of the Fusion, resulting in disabling damage to both vehicles.
Emergency responders treated Howell at the scene for chest pain and facial injuries before transporting her to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center for further evaluation. Chavarria, who initially did not report any injuries, was also taken to the hospital.
The Lima Police Department issued Chavarria a citation for running the red light as they continued to investigate the crash.
