Lincoln, NE (May 13, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision occurred on Monday, May 12, near 162nd and O Streets in Lancaster County, Nebraska, resulting in one fatality. The crash took place around 12:28 PM when a Ford Focus traveling eastbound on O Street collided head-on with a white SUV traveling westbound.
According to Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO) Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, the Ford Focus sustained heavy front-end damage, while the SUV ended up in a nearby ditch. The male driver of the Ford Focus was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries. The male driver of the SUV was able to walk away from the crash unharmed.
Authorities closed O Street between 148th and 162nd Streets for nearly three hours while they investigated the crash. The road was reopened around 3:21 PM.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and no citations have been issued at this time. LSO is working to determine the factors that led to this tragic incident.
