Manhattan, NY – Two Injured in Sixth-Floor Fire on W 166th St

Long Island City, NY – Triple Fatality in Car Crash at Borden Ave and 29th St

Long Island City, NY (May 22, 2021) – Three men were killed on Saturday, May 22nd when their speeding sedan launched off a skateboard ramp and plunged into Newtown Creek.

Police have identified two of the three men: 30-year-old Luis Cuadros, a resident of Elmhurst, and 25-year-old Quameek Mack, resident of Freeport. The third victim has not been identified.

The accident took place at about 4:45 a.m. near the intersection of Borden Avenue and 29th Street in Long Island City, under the Long Island Expressway.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed down a dead-end street.

The vehicle attempted to make a righthand turn but went sideways over a large makeshift concrete skateboarding ramp, which propelled it over a 15-foot fence. It flew about another 20 feet before landing in the creek.

Rescue divers and Fire Department marine units were called to the scene. They pulled the men from the submerged car about 10 minutes later.

Paramedics attempted to revive the victims, who were taken to Cornell Medical Center in critical condition, where they died.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victim at this time. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy.
