Los Angeles, CA (May 10, 2020) – The construction of LAX’s new Automated People Mover was brought to a two-day halt when a column fell down in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, May 9th fatally injuring a worker.
At about 6:00 a.m., a rebar column collapsed near the Theme Building, which is situated between Center Way and East Way.
Officials from the LAX Airport Police, as well as the Los Angeles Fire Department, both reported to the accident site. Rescue workers attempted CPR on the victim but he was already beyond medical help and pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department with the help of LAX Airport Police.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health will also play a role in the investigation.
