Louisville, KY (October 13, 2024) – A tragic car crash occurred on October 12 on the Gene Snyder Freeway near the Bardstown Road exit, resulting in one fatality and another individual hospitalized. The incident was reported around 4:20 a.m., prompting a response from local emergency services and law enforcement.
According to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis, a 71-year-old man was driving north on Interstate 265 when his vehicle was rear-ended by a speeding car. The impact caused the first vehicle to swerve off the road and roll over. Sadly, the driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Arnold Quijada-Vega, remained at the scene following the crash. Officers on the scene determined that Quijada-Vega was impaired at the time of the accident. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to UofL Hospital with injuries that were reported to be non-life-threatening.
Quijada-Vega is facing several charges, including vehicular homicide under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, and tampering with physical evidence. He is expected to appear in court on Monday as the investigation continues.
