Luna County, NM (July 7, 2023) – The New Mexico State Police confirmed that 77-year-old Kay Chandler lost her life as a result of an automobile accident that occurred in Luna County.
At around 10:00 p.m. on July 2, the police responded to the scene of a crash on Highway 26 involving a water tanker and a semi-truck tractor-trailer. The two vehicles collided on the northbound side of the roadway, causing the semi-truck to strike an SUV head-on.
Medics responded to the scene to care for the victims. A passenger inside the SUV, identified as Chandler, was severely hurt and rushed to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries.
State police are currently investigating.
