Lyons, GA (September 19, 2023) – A severe collision unfolded at East Clifton Avenue and Reidsville Road on Sunday at around 7:08 p.m.
Upon arrival, Toombs County deputies discovered a black Dodge Charger, driven by Renee Dupuis, in a ditch.
Nearby, Deputy Chase Barr’s patrol car lay in a home’s front yard.
The impact ejected Dupuis from her vehicle while Barr promptly assisted her.
Dupuis, suffering head and internal injuries, was initially treated at Air Evac and then transferred to US Health in Jacksonville. She remains in critical condition.
With facial and head injuries and cuts, Deputy Barr was treated at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia.
He has since been discharged and is on medical leave.
The crash occurred as Barr responded to a call about a reckless driver.
As he tried to overtake vehicles, Dupuis turned, not noticing Barr’s car, leading to the collision.
The Georgia State Patrol now handles the case.
The investigation is still ongoing.
