Madison, MS (May 13, 2025) – A tragic house fire claimed the life of an elderly woman in Madison, Mississippi, on Tuesday morning, May 13. The Madison Fire Department received a 911 call at approximately 10:22 AM reporting a house fully engulfed in flames on Spring Hill Drive.

Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and began rescue efforts to locate the woman still inside the burning house. Despite their best efforts, the woman was pronounced deceased after being transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, her identity has not been released as authorities await notification of next of kin.

An adult male was found outside the home when emergency responders arrived. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries and then transported to UMMC. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Madison police and fire officials are still on the scene working to fully extinguish the fire. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist with the investigation into the cause of the fire. Residents in the area are being asked to avoid the area while emergency responders continue their work.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased, and we hope for a swift recovery for the injured male.

Fire Safety and Prevention in Mississippi

House fires like the one on Spring Hill Drive are a tragic reminder of the dangers posed by fires in residential areas. It is important for all residents to have working smoke detectors and to create an escape plan in case of an emergency.

In Mississippi, fires continue to be a leading cause of property damage and loss of life. Local authorities encourage homeowners to ensure their homes are equipped with fire safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, and to check these devices regularly to ensure they are in good working order.
