Manhattan, NY (April 18, 2021) – A 19-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a car crash in Manhattan that claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman and caused injuries to three more on Thursday, April 15th.

Reports show that at about 10:30 p.m., 19-year-old Stephanie Jaramillo, a resident of Queens, was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on the Trans-Manhattan Expressway, in the area of Amsterdam Avenue and West 175th Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a guardrail. The force of the impact overturned the vehicle onto its roof. 

One of the passengers, an 18-year-old female, sustained severe trauma to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jaramillo and her three additional passengers, a 20-year-old female, and two 19-year-old females, were all transported via ambulances to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. They are currently listed in stable condition.
