Manhattan, NY (April 21, 2021) – Authorities say that an apartment fire on the Upper East Side in Manhattan claimed the life of one person and left two others injured. The incident was reported at East 82nd Street and 2nd Avenue on Wednesday morning, April 21st.

According to officials, approximately 140 crew members arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m. to fight the flames and assist those involved. Two residents, identified only as two males, ages 81 and 83, were transported to a nearby hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the 83-year-old man was pronounced deceased a short time later and the 81-year-old victim is currently in critical condition. One firefighter also suffered at least non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

The cause of the fire is actively under investigation.
