Marion Township, MI (October 24, 2024) – A serious two-car crash occurred late Wednesday night on westbound I-96 at Pinckney Road, resulting in injuries to three individuals, one of whom is in critical condition. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene just before 11 p.m. following reports of the accident.
Preliminary investigations by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office indicate that a 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by a 23-year-old male resident of Redford, struck a deer while traveling west on I-96. The collision rendered the vehicle disabled in the center lane, leading to a subsequent rear-end collision with a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu operated by a 33-year-old female resident of Stanwood.
The driver of the Ford Fusion was transported to Novi Providence Hospital for minor injuries. However, the passenger in the Ford Fusion, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu also sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sparrow Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have indicated that alcohol use may have played a role in the crash, while speed does not appear to be a contributing factor. The use of seatbelts is still under investigation.
The crash led to the closure of the westbound lanes of I-96 for approximately three and a half hours as investigators worked to gather evidence and clear the scene. The Livingston County EMS, Howell Area Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Michigan Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate incident, especially the individuals who sustained injuries.
